John Bannan, Founder and Executive Director-- John has worked with students and young adults in Philadelphia his entire adult life, both as a sports coach, and as a volunteer in his children’s neighborhood public school Home and School Association. John has a BA in History from Rutgers University and a lifelong passion for rowing. As an international rower and professional coach, his teams participated in nine World, Pan-American or Olympic competitions, including a Bronze Medal win in the 1984 LA Olympics. He has more than thirty years of sales and marketing, managing, training and supervisory work experience, for both large and small businesses, and a lifelong concern for children, especially those living in poverty or other struggling family situations.
Molly Mahoney, Co-Founder and Associate Director-- Molly brings twenty years of experience in writing, promotion, and fundraising to the Philadelphia Children’s Foundation. Molly has a BA in English Literature from Duke University, and had a successful career in writing and editing before she started her family, including working on Capitol Hill for a US Congressman and as a paralegal in Washington, DC for a Supreme Court law firm, as well as five years in New York as Advertising/Promotion Manager for St. Martin’s Press. While her children were young, she worked as the music director of a Catholic Church and volunteered as head of the fundraising at her children’s local public school. She also wrote and published a book on the social and architectural history of her parish, “St. Madeleine Sophie Parish, 1925-2000.”
