July Park Events
Now that its officially summer, we Philadelphians are all looking for ways to get out and enjoy the weather. Unfortunately the blacktop of the city streets sometimes makes summer seem unbearable than a time to get out. But the great thing about Philadelphia is that there is plenty of parkland for you to get out and enjoy the nice weather. In fact, no matter where you live in Philadelphia you are never more than a mile away from a park

The Philadelphia Children’s Foundation would like to remind you of some of the great opportunities Philadelphia’s parks offer for summer time relaxation. From hiking to biking to fishing, Philadelphia has a wide range of opportunities for you and your child to enjoy the summertime. Below are listed some fun and reasonable activities for kids this July at Philadelphia’s Fairmont Park.

What: Fireworks brought to you in honor of Pennsylvannia’s state insect, the firefly. This event is FREE.
When: Thursday, July 3rd, after dark.

What: For children 5 to 8 accompianied by an adult. Following a reading of the children’s The Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle kids take a short walk followed by arts and crafts.
When: Saturday, July 5th, 11:00am to 12:30pm.

What: For kids 11-14. Events include a hike up Pennypack Creek into Lorimer Park. There will be fishing and games. Bring a lunch, snacks are included. $20 per child.
When: Wednesday, July 16th, 9:00am to 3:00pm.

What: Full Moon Hike on the Wissahickon. The night begins with roasting marshmallows around a campfire while the sun goes down. Afterwards there is a guided nighttime hike with activities that include finding animal signs and listening for their noises. Even if walking through the woods at night isn’t your thing, the marshmallows promise to make it worthwhile. Ages 5 and up, and the cost is $2 a person.
When: Thursday, July 17th, 8:00pm – 9:30pm.
Where: Pine Road, one mile North of Rhawn Street.

What: Tuesday Night on the Farm. Sample dishes created fresh from the garden and even meet the beekeeper. Produce from the farm will also be for sale. Unless you decide to buy some produce, it’s FREE.
