Pros & Cons of Being a Democrate:
According to Dominic Roher
Today a lot of people don’t know what it means to be a Democrat. Being a Democrat does not mean that you are a person of low class, but that you stand for the working class. In the year 2008 more young voters are joining the Democratic party, and in some cases, Republicans are turning Democrat because they are unhappy with the state of the nation.
Pros’
Democrats are in favor to higher the minimum wage because they understand that there are a lot of people in the United States who need the money. It is a fact that in this country, the poor is getting poorer and the rich is getting richer. People with a high household income (which may consist anywhere from $80,000 to even $80,000,000,000), can afford not to worry about taxes. In short, Democrats are trying to work with the lower class families as well as the upper class to improve the United States economy.
Democrats support the environment because they want the earth to survive many more generations. They understand that the United States burns fossil fuels and does other things to harm the environment more than other countries in the world. Americans refuse to walk to the store, and instead jump in the car to drive right around the corner. Americans don’t see that the gas price isn’t the only problem with gas. It’s using gas period that is killing the Ozone layer.
Most Democrats believe that college should not cost so much for a person who is trying to better him or herself, because not all families are able to pay $18,000 a year for a good school that their son or daughter wants to go to. How can education be a birth right when it is denied from so many people because of the cost of college?
Cons’
Democrats don’t always see eye to eye about the stuff that matter most. This is a problem because as the party starts to divide, voters switch parties, and party leaders end up neglecting their obligation to their constituents. An example of such controversial topics is the war in Iraq. Some Democrats in the US House of Representatives and the US House of Senate voted for the United States to invade Iraq, and some still continue their support for the war. There have been 4,058 Americans killed in this war. We have spent over $515,000,000,000 on the war in the past 7 years. We need to start bringing our troops home instead of staying in the war and making our economy worse.
Lastly, most people in the Democratic party support social programs that could lead to tax increases. The one thing that we do not need in this country is for our taxes to increase. We are trying to build our economy, and making our taxes higher will prevent people from buying things and regenerating the economy.
