WISE stands for "web-based inquiry science environment," but that's an understatement. Within WISE, students examine real-world evidence and analyze current scientific controversies. Teachers select from among several dozen unit capstone projects for grades 4-12 that are generally about a week in length. In projects, students work in pairs on the site to conduct inquiries on current topics such as genetically modified foods, earthquake prediction, and the deformed frogs mystery where they design, debate, and critique solutions. Areas addressed include life, Earth, and physical science.
