"Northwestern is a 146-bed, private psychiatric hospital. It offers both children and adolescent services. The children admitted to the children’s unit are identified with emotional and behavioral problems like aggression, hyperactivity, withdrawal, impulsivity, and severe noncompliance with age-appropriate activities of daily living. Treatment modalities include: individual and/or play therapy, a structured safe environment, psychological testing where appropriate, family therapy, educational programming, recreational and art therapies and comprehensive discharge planning. The adolescent programs’ population is identified with significant psychological dysfunction. Depression, oppositional behavior, conduct problems and acute psychosis are common problems of this group. Treatment is also provided for those patients with significant substance use/abuse. Individual therapy, a structured therapeutic environment, psychological testing, family therapy, educational programming, recreational and art therapies, and comprehensive discharge planning are all part of the adolescent's treatment. All Adolescent Programs include focus groups to address substance abuse. The Children's Program is for 6 to 12 years. The adolescent programs are for 12 to 18 years"
